About me

I studied philosophy and psychology—and found my way into software development while I was still at university, back in the mid-1990s.

Since then, I’ve mainly built and evolved enterprise web applications for major European media organisations, while also taking my own apps from the initial idea through to release. I’ve worked as an independent developer since 2001.

For me, product development has always been iterative. In the early days of the web, browsers seemed to open up new possibilities almost every month, and everyone involved had to keep working out what could actually be built with them: develop, experiment, gather feedback, and rethink. What later became popular as agile development felt like the natural way of working from the very beginning.

AI-assisted development—agentic engineering—has accelerated this process considerably. But the essential challenge remains the same: understanding what should be built in the first place and how it should be structured.

Today, I feel the same sense of possibility I experienced in 1993, when I first encountered the Internet in a philosophy seminar. I have rarely enjoyed developing software as much as I do now. My experience in product management, consulting, and leadership helps me bring structure to unclear problems, make sound decisions, and build software that works reliably.
